Broome Life
Broome the gateway to the Kimberley’s, a tropical oasis nestled
between the blue waters and white sandy beaches of the Indian ocean
and the rugged pindan landscape of the Kimberley wilderness. It
simply oozes with colour and is a unique and exotic seaside town
with a romantic and often flamboyant history.
Established as a pearling port in the 1880’s, Broome today
boasts a multicultural population made up of many nationalities
that flocked to the shores of Roebuck Bay in the hope of making
their fortune from the pearling industry and the “Pinctada
Maxima’, the world’s largest pearl oyster shell. It
was this exciting and often dangerous quest by many colourful personalities
for the valuable harvest of pearl shell that has helped forge the
character and charm of Broome.

Today, remnants of Broomes’s exotic past are everywhere.
The town’s multicultural heritage and subsequent cultural
fusion has seen an unusual style of Colonial/Asian architecture
develop, and this is evident throughout Broome’s Chinatown
and in many of the residential homes throughout the township.
The multicultural society also ensures a wonderful matrix of gourmet
cusine. A stroll through Chinatown will see you a colourful mixture
of Asian and European influences, of sidewalk café’s,
jewellery galleries, museums, and Broome’s best night spots.
Nippon Inn and Tokyo Joes bars and clubs a must.

It’s the perfect holiday destination with an ideal climate,
stunning natural beauty, historic sights and charm, plenty of attractions,
adventure and activities, shopping and dining. Whether you prefer
an active agenda of exploring or just want to take it easy on the
